The European Green Deal: Opportunities for EU-Gulf Cooperation

On June 9 2021, the Bussola Institute held an online event entitled “The European Green Deal: Opportunities for EU-Gulf Cooperation”.

The negative impacts of climate change and environmental degradation are an existential threat to the planet as a whole. To address the challenges, increased global cooperation is imperative for sharing knowledge and devising solutions to mitigate and adapt to the effects of climate change.

The EU has asserted its global leadership in this regard through the adoption of the European Green Deal.  The European Green Deal provides an action plan to make the EU's economy sustainable by increasing the efficient use of resources by moving to a clean, circular economy, restoring biodiversity and cutting pollution. The European Commission has also asserted that the Green Deal will inform all dimensions of EU policy and practice going forward.

The GCC states are also taking action to eliminate carbon emissions through domestic policy and regional cooperation in realising the energy transition to non-carbon-based fuels. This webinar  explores the opportunities for EU-GCC cooperation in realising the objectives of the Green Deal globally.  Attention is  given to furthering cooperation through sharing technology, building research networks and facilitating knowledge transfer in order to develop practical solutions, greater understanding and collaboration between Europe and the Gulf in addressing this global challenge.
