Preparing young people to navigate more diverse societies

On 4 February 2021, the Bussola Institute held a special webinar with the #OECD​. To effectively navigate today’s world, our young people must be able to examine local, global and intercultural issues, understand and appreciate different perspectives and worldviews, interact openly and respectfully across different media platforms, and take responsible actions towards sustainability and collective well-being. The compounded crises of COVID-19 and its economic fallout have added urgency to the call for a quality global competence education that aspires to an appreciation for diversity and human dignity for all young people.

The Bussola Institute has been working closely with the OECD’s Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) team in supporting its first ever evaluation of students’ global competence across 68 different countries.

This webinar explored what we have learned from this evaluation and examined how Europe and the Gulf can draw on the significant experience of countries in both regions in the areas of intercultural integration, cultural diversity and tolerance, to support cooperation between policy makers, leaders and educators in developing equitable and effective global competence education.
