Senior Advisor Dr. Christian Koch lead the discussions at a workshop within the Tafahum project – “Security Roadmap for West Asia and the Arabian Peninsula" on the issue of "Reconstruction efforts in Syria, Yemen and Iraq" held in Rome, Italy. The Tafahum project was launched in September 2018 by the Center for Applied Research in Partnership with the Orient (CARPO) and the Gulf Research Center Foundation and has as its objective the development of a roadmap for regional security in West Asia and the Arabian Peninsula – a region that includes the states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Iran, Iraq and Yemen. The Rome meeting was aimed at coming up  with guiding principles and discuss tangible ways forward for the reconstruction and reconciliation efforts in Syria, Yemen and Iraq. For this purpose, an interdisciplinary group from the GCC states , Yemen, Iran and Iraq attended alongside international experts who are active in the fields of reconstruction and reconciliation.
