As part of the Bertelsmann project on “Strategies for the European Neighborhood”, Dr. Christian Koch took part in discussion with policy officials in Berlin, Germany regarding the overarching theme of the changing posture of the United States in the Middle and its implication for Europe and regional actors. The work of the project seeks to analyze the interests of the governments of Russia, Turkey, Iran and Saudi Arabia when it comes to the EU’s eastern and southern neighborhood and its transformation agenda and develop fresh ideas that will contribute to the stability of these regions. The project will soon be releasing a second policy brief with recommendation to the EU and in this context discussion took place in Berlin with representatives from the German Federal Foreign Office, the Chancellor’s office, the Federal Ministry for Economic Development and leading journalists.
